【Central】Riding the large observation wheel “Hong Kong Observation Wheel”

We took a ride on the “Hong Kong Observation Wheel”, a large Ferris wheel near Central Station.

What is Central Station like?

Central is the center of Hong Kong’s economy! It is the central commercial district of Hong Kong that serves as a financial center, with many multinational financial institutions headquartered here.

On weekends, you won’t see many people working, but on weekdays, you can see a lot of Japanese people working here.

However, walking between the buildings, you will find interesting areas with restaurants and boutiques ranging from high-end to B-grade, as well as discount stores.

Overview of the Observation Wheel

The “Hong Kong Observation Wheel” is a large Ferris wheel that opened in 2015 on the waterfront of Central. It has now become a landmark of Hong Kong and is a popular tourist spot as well as a dating spot for residents.

The price is HKD 20 for adults and HKD 10 for children (3-11 years old) and seniors (65 and above), which is quite affordable. (As of now, 1 HKD is approximately 0.13 USD).

In Japan, riding a Ferris wheel easily costs over 1000 yen, so this price is quite reasonable! If you visit Hong Kong for tourism, please try it out!!

My Impression of Riding the Ferris Wheel

Unlike Japanese Ferris wheels, the speed of the Hong Kong Observation Wheel is incredibly fast. Even from a distance, the speed is quite shocking.

I thought the ride would be over quickly at this pace, but to my surprise, we passed the boarding point without getting off after the first rotation….

Hmm, I wonder how many times it goes around…??

In the end, we went around three times in total!

I didn’t feel as much height as I thought I would, but it was still very pleasant to be able to see the view of Kowloon.

Summary

There are also places for children to play around the Ferris wheel ride, so it’s quite enjoyable.

Since the price is also cheap, I recommend trying it out if you’re not afraid of heights!
